Apollo and jeannette, the proud parents (mature)

Apollo stepped forward and stopped at the top of the hill, looking down upon the foaling grounds. the long grass rippled in the wind like waves. mares were scattered here and there. some with a single stallion, some with entire herds, some even alone. The warm breeze carried Apollo's long tail up and blew it out like a stream. This was the where his foal would be born. into a land of greatness and honor and pride. For Apollo and Jeannette were the future parents. Apollo was a proud father and held his foals to the highest of standards.

He nuzzled his mate that was by his side. Apollo had planned to arrive at the foaling grounds earlier than the foal was expected because he wanted time for them to get settled and comfortable. He lovingly nickered at Jeannette indicating to chose where the foal was to be born. He surveyed the area. there was the meadow with the soft luscious green grass. There was also the edge of some woods with a stream running through it. There was also near bye a pond fit for swimming and bathing. All seemed beautiful and pleasant and suitable for a birthing location. He would leave the decision up to his mate, for she was the one giving birth. he nuzzled her again in great affection.

Jeanette examined the scene with dark ebony eyes. In all honesty, she was surprised there were as many mares and stallions here as there were—but it didn’t matter much. The foal she was carrying was on its way, and very soon, so whether there were others here or not made no difference. She’d foal whenever the foal was ready to come, and she had little control over that. Snorting lightly and glancing over at her mate, Jeanette surveyed the area. She’d hoped she could find a place that was relatively unpopulated, but by the sight she saw she realized she would be lucky to have a place for herself that was only a few horse-lengths away from where she would foal. Flicking her tail, Jeanette glanced over at Apollo and rubbed her muzzle affectionately underneath his and looked around once more, before her eyes settled on a small patch of grass that was surrounded by a small cluster of tall willow trees, right beside a quietly trickling stream. The willow’s branches would provide extra security and privacy, and the stream added a nice touch to the atmosphere. Jeanette nipped her dun barrel when she felt the foal kick and whinnied lightly, turning from her mate and starting down the small hill they were on to the place she had laid eyes on. She would’ve trotted over there, but at this point in her pregnancy, walking was enough of a challenge without having to worry that she’d foal before she got a few steps away.

When the thought of being a mother had crossed her mind, she’d completely left out the detail about how long it would take to be in gestation, and also what carrying a foal around inside of her would be like. Being pregnant was not a thing she appreciated—but she was excited to be able to raise their foal at long last, to have it grow up to be a great stallion like its father, or a great mare like its mother. Jeanette knew how high Apollo’s standards were, and her own standards were also unusually high, but with their pairing, she had no doubt in her mind that their foal would be the best of the best, able to say proudly that they were better than the others, and not have to do much to back up that claim. As soon as dark hooves landed on the small patch of grass, Jeanette lowered herself to the ground, and ended up plopping onto the grass less gracefully than she’d originally intended. Jeanette snorted and arranged herself comfortably as the foal kicked again, and the dun-colored mare stretched out her neck in the grass, the blades tickling her nostrils.

Apollo followed his mate down to the location that was chosen. He approved. The trees provided a comfortable shade and the stream an addition source to cool off with. he stood there, grooming Jeannette, but then she fell to the ground. he backed off, giving her plenty of room. He circled around to her back end and licked where the foal was coming out. He did this for encouragement, and to clean her up. he nickered softly in reassurance, letter her know that he was there. he kept his head lowered, watching, waiting for the hooves to appear.

Jeanette lifted her head and stared at Apollo for a moment with kind eyes when she felt him lick her, and once more she nipped at her barrel when she felt the foal shift. Jeanette snorted and let her head fall back to the ground and began to push, pawing the air uselessly with her hoof as she let out a quiet grunt. She knew the only thing that kept her going now was that it would be over relatively soon – and that meant no more carrying a foal around inside of her! She’d be free to move around like she used to. Jeanette pushed again after her short pause, nickering lowly as she lifted her head to examine her hindquarters, before lowering her head and continuing to push. Soon enough, soon enough, she’d have the foal out. And she could already tell she’d be a hell of a lot more comfortable.

Apollo nickered in encouragement, telling his mate that the foal was starting to appear. he could tell that she was having natural birthing trouble, but all he could do was wait and support his mate. he flicked his tail at flied on his rump. there were many other occurrences happening around them such as the grunts from other foaling mares, but not once did he take his eyes from the precious sight of his foal being born. he nickered again in encouragement.

After a while, Jeanette was forced to just push. It was taking longer than expected, but that might’ve been because a million other things were on her mind. Jeanette neighed loudly after a big push, finally bringing the foal into the world. A small layer of sweat covered Jeanette, and she let herself catch her breath for a moment before coming upright, shakily getting to her feet and licking the foal instinctively, taking in the scent of her newly born child, and glancing over proudly at Apollo, before whinnying quietly to her foal and beginning to help the small child to its feet to nurse.

Apollo went over to Jeannette and nuzzled her quickly. "shes beautiful." he said with pride. "she takes after her parents. especially you Jeannette." he said. he lowered his head and nickered a hello to the youngster. he extended his big muzzle out to the foal and took in her scent. as soon as he identified his newborn filly, he lifted his muscular head to jeannette. "i am very proud of you. what should we name her?"

The young filly whinnied and stood up on wobbly hind legs, front legs still folded underneath her as she tried to get to her feet, getting some help from her mother.

Jeanette looked over at Apollo and lovingly nipped his mane, tugging on it gently in a playful manner. “She does take after us, doesn’t she? And she takes after you just as much, love.” Jeanette took her eyes off of Apollo and turned her attention back to the filly, then shrugged. “Saffron, maybe?”

The young filly looked up at her father as soon as she'd managed to get up on her feet completely. The young filly whinnied loudly and stumbled over to her mother and started to nurse. Jeanette looked at her new daughter happily and nuzzled Apollo. "I'm sure she'll grow up to be a fine intellectual, just like her father."

Apollo nuzzled her mate. He was impressed by how great she looked. she was the best looking foal in the entirety of the meadow. he lifted his head and let out a neigh in glee and pride.

[ Oh my gosh I'm so sorry!! Usually it notifies me when I have a response, and it didn't, so I didn't think to look! Oh my gosh I feel so bad... I'm really sorry!!!!!!!!!!! ;;; And that pictures is very pretty, but I can't see the one of the yearling. ]

Jeanette smiled and nuzzled the young one gently, encouraging the newborn to nurse and gain strength. Jeanette let out a whinny in satisfaction as well, joining her voice in with her mate's. Her eyes scanned their surroundings and watched as some of the other mares who had already foaled looked over to see the new addition. A few of the mares gave quick glances, decided it didn't concern them, and looked away; others nickered congratulations; and yet more just didn't bother to look at all. Those were the kind of mares that Jeanette didn't like. But it troubled her to see some mares were alone---no stallion was near them while they foaled. Jeanette shuddered to think what had happened to those unfortunate ones. Jeanette turned her attention back to the filly, who had finished drinking and was now attempting to head-butt her father on the shoulder without falling, causing Jeanette to chuckle quietly.

Apollo took pride in his daughter, and aproved of play, but he was not usually the one participating. he stepped to the side. Then gently he nudged Saffron over to the other little colts and filly's prancing through the meadow. Maybe she would make friends there. he nickered in approval and encouragment as the filly started to warily trot off.

Jeanette watched as Apollo somewhat uncomfortably stepped aside and nudged their newborn daughter towards a group of other fillies and colts to go play. Jeanette chuckled as she watched the filly take unwary steps as she trotted off, stumbling every now and again; Jeanette's motherly instincts were telling her to go and help her daughter along, but she also knew that Saffron would never learn if she didn't get to do things on her own, so Jeanette stayed put, moving a bit closer to Apollo and smiling, "She'll grow up to be a fine mare," Jeanette murmured before starting to groom her mate's withers.

Saffron trailed behind her small family. the wind picked up and her black tail bellowed in the wind. her forelock was tucked up against her alert ear. they swiveled around. Saffron has matured through out the years. her muscles have grown. her legs now fit the rest of her strong beautiful body. her coat darkened in time, slightly resembling her father's. she surveyed the area for potential mates. Like her father, she takes pride in her looks and glamour and only accepts the best for a mate. although her father holds his standards much higher. Saffron hopes that she can find the perfect mate. one that will satisfy both her and her father. When she notices she is trailing behind, she picks up her gait to a trot and catches up to her family.

Apollo looks behind him and sees his daughter surveying the meadow. "dont be running off with any mix breeds. you need my approval before you find a mate Saffron." he said he swished his tail while taking long strides.

Admittedly, Jeanette had slowed in the years of Saffron growing up. Blame it on bad health, but a year after Saffron was born, it was revealed Jeanette wasn't going to have another foal without trouble, and therefore the discussion for giving Saffron a sibling had become quiet for a very long while. However, the years spent with the growing filly, who was now a very beautiful mare, had been the best of Jeanette's life. Jeanette was trailing off to the side, just behind her mate, head lowered slightly as her shoulders swung lightly with her walking gait. She turned and looked at her daughter, "Yes, quite. I'd let you get by with a nice stallion from the Alter Real strain, but otherwise try to stay within our bloodlines, all right? And make sure he isn't troublesome." Jeanette nudged her daughter's shoulder gently with her muzzle as she passed, eyes softening slightly and wishing her own deteriorating health wasn't growing more prominent and that she'd at least live long enough to be a grandmother, and to be able to see her grandchild grow up to be a healthy horse. Jeanette snorted and with effort, caught up to her mate's side and pulled on his mane, murmuring to him so Saffron wouldn't hear, "Be nice on whomever she finds. Young love has a way of being stubborn... try not to judge first impressions too harshly, all right, dear?" Jeanette smiled lightly.

Zazu snorted and dashed around his brother, Odin, with a furious speed, showing off his one trait that his brother could not best him in. Zazu and Odin had a very lively brother rivalry, and despite the fact that they would fight constantly, they were inseparable. The two had been together since birth, though unfortunately their mother had died because of delivering the two nonidentical twins. And even being twins, Zazu and Odin couldn't be any more different. Zazu had issues with his pride, he was extraordinarily fast, he was reckless, and loved having fun. Odin was an intellectual who loved 'sitting back and watching the clouds roll by,' and who definitely hadn't gained the speed his brother had. However, Odin prided himself in being great with conversations and having a persuasive side to him, though he rarely ever needed to persuade anyone but his more lively brother.
"Come on, Odin, you're so slow!" Zazu neighed happily, teasing his brother and slowing down to stand by his side, head lifted high and ears alert as his brother lowered his head and began to graze, never once being more than a stride or two away from Zazu. Zazu carefully turned his head as he heard voices, and moved closer to his brother. Another thing about Zazu was he was uncomfortable at first with meeting new people, and Odin was always the first to go up and introduce the two of them, and later Zazu would join in with his own voice. Zazu swished his tail and said quietly, "I don't think we're alone anymore, Odin." Zazu trotted around to the other side of his brother, resting his head on the bachelor's withers and glancing in the direction he'd heard the voices coming from.

(sounds good! and, i read your farewell or absence post, and i completely agree. one sentence posts i absolutely cant stand! so i apologize in advance if i make one.)
(i know right! great response. that was mine too.)

Saffron snorted in response. she let herself fall behind her parents again, sensing their conversation was not meant for her ears. suddently her head shot up and her ears pinned themselves forward, like sights of a gun on a target. she was alert, standing tall. her neck was erect. her nostrils flared. she picked up the scent of two stallions. Just what she was waiting for. she looked over at her mother for permission, then trotted over to the two stallions. her thick and muscular neck was arched and her tail flagged. she was gorgeous. her eyes narrowed in on the two stallions. they weren't that bad looking themselves. with the sun shining off their chestnut coats. she stopped so that her neck was aligned with the other two. she kept her neck arched and alert. she swished her tail and slightly bobbed her head in greeting.

Apollo snorted. "okay. but the boy has to be fit for my daughter. i dont want Saffron's class to be dragged down by some sad old stallion." he said deeply from his chest as he gently touched his muzzle to Jeannete's ear.

I was still depressed when school started up again and then homework piled on and then I got depressed again. I promise I'll try my hardest to post within three days of your reply every time. If I can't I swear I'll PM you. it's unfair that you had to wait this long, so, again, you may drop this post if you like. My gosh... I have NEVER not replied for an entire month before.. I feel terrible... I am so sorry... ]

Jeanette smiled gently and tugged on her mate's mane gently, in a loving fashion, watching her daughter prance ahead. She stopped herself and lifted her nose when she smelled the presence of other horses nearby. She snorted the scent out of her nose before turning to her husband, "I think you might want to stay back and let Saffron deal with this for a bit by herself. Let's see how she does. If the bachelors start acting weird I give you permission to chase them off... but don't hurt them too badly."

Odin had, for a moment, half-reared to try and catch up to his speedy brother, when Zazu stopped and headed beside him, hiding to one side, his head resting on his withers. Not wanting to take away his brother's security, Odin didn't move; instead he just turned his head, ears pricked forward with curiosity. Odin knew Zazu was incredibly introverted when it came to meeting new horses, mares or stallions alike. He was more outgoing when it came to people, but he knew he had to be sensitive when it came to his brother's introverted-ness. Odin nickered loudly to the other horse, taking in the scent of a young mare, with another pair of horses not too far behind her, and called out, "Hello?"
