Nobody's Hero [M] [ZeldaWolfy]

His eyes narrowed, straining to see past the flames and through the crackling fires. They greedily ate at the wooden houses,scorching stones and nipping at flesh. This drove him wild, the scent of blood. How it filled his nostrils with a wild scent that stimulated the beast within. Though, beyond these feral senses, he could see them. It was a boy and girl,huddled near the corner of the runes of an old house. The thick smog made them cough, straining to take in any and all air. Dashing through the flames, he appeared before them in a solar eclipse, his broad frame outlined in a red flame. "Come on!" He shouted, scooping up the little,fragile girl in his arms. She was unable to resist, her strength sucked out by the flames. Her big brother stood up, the collar of his shirt pressed down on his nose.

His eyes scanned the scene,searching for an opening in the greedy flames. There! A perfect stone arch, damp around the bottom to prevent the fires from sparking, but not for long. Motioning with his head to the boy,he raced over to the arch way. He wasn't the only one who thought it was safe. It was the only exit of the town, the survivors throwing buckets over the nearest flames in a attempt to seize their destruction.

Faye nearly ran into Skylar, dipping her head before moving off into a burning building to see if anyone was trapped. She glanced up, the cracking of the ceiling making her nervous. She yelped as a piece of the wood fell, crashing into her shoulder, bringing her to her knees. Cursing like a sailor, Faye rose, her shoulder flaring with pain. 

The house had been evacuate, and Faye cursed again, quickly exiting before she got hit by anything else. She nearly tripped over the next child she found, wincing as she picked the young girl up and headed towards the exit.

His eyes fixed on Faye, the sight of her lifting up his spirits slightly. At least he knew she was safe. After all, he wouldn't wanted to have to save her, knowing her temper he would've been killed if he so spoke a word! Though the scent of her injury brought uneasiness, just feeling her temper fly sky high made him tremble as he carried the girl to the safety of the arch way. "Here." He spoke softly,brushing the ash out of her hair with his gloved fingers.

The little girl looked up at him, her precious jade eyes shining with respect towards the man that saved her life. Her mother ran up to her from behind, snatching her off the ground and hugging her so tightly she suffocated her. The brother that accompanied him came coughing out of the shadows,his eyes shut and having difficulty breathing.

Faye set the girl down, backing up as the father came to lead her off to check for any injuries. She coughed, brushing her hair back from her face and looking around as she strode back into the village. Skylar caught her attention, and she hurried up to him. "How many more are there?" Faye asked, voice slightly rough. Her arm was stinging, and Faye held back a string of curses as she waited for Sky to answer her. 

She searched for shadows, checking for any presences around them, to see who else needed rescuing, but her concentration wouldn't hold, and she was forced to rely on Skylar.

Skylar reached out to Faye, taking hold of her arm lightly. His bright blue eyes flickered with a internal fire itself, angered he himself could've let his partner be injured. Though he knew it was nothing less then a scratch to the stubborn and naive Faye, it still worried him. "There's none left.. None alive." His head was held down, pulling a scarf out from along his waist, covering Faye's nose with it so she didn't inhale the toxins from the fire.

Faye bit her tongue, holding back another wave of foul curses as he told her there wasn't any left alive. She shut her eyes tightly, frustrated that they couldn't of done more. When the fabric of the scarf came into contact with her skin, she jerked back sharply, dark eyes snapping open and settling on Skylar in a glare. "I'm fine. Now we should go."

Skylar's sky blue eyes darkened as he watched her, the flames reflecting off them. He tied the scarf along his waist, the dusty old rag tossing rapidly in the powerful storm winds. He could understand this sudden snap from Faye, after all they could have saved them. He hung his head, his spiked blonde hair ruffled in the breeze. "Of course." He spoke clearly, softly.

Faye grabbed his shoulder softly, gently shaking it, ducking down so she could look at him and smile. "C'mon, let's get outta here." She whispered, releasing him and heading off towards their campsite. She'd have to find that damned horse. Hopefully a pack of wolves or a cougar hadn't already found it. Sighing and shaking her head, Faye grinned, and glanced over her shoulder to make sure Skylar was coming.

Skylar wasn't far behind, though he was surely taking his sweet time. The gentle breeze carried ash and embers along, the scent igniting his internal fire. It will always haunt him, the one time they weren't able to save everyone. His head perked up at the familiar sight, though the dumb beast wasn't there. Good.. He thought with a sly smirk, praying to whatever Gods liked him that it was taken off this world.

Faye slung her sword over her shoulder, watching Skylar with a smirk. She was very aware of his dislike for the horse. Rolling up the temporary bed, she tossed it to him, and started towards the direction in which the horse had disappeared. "I'll be back in an hour. Why don't you find us something to eat, hmm?" Faye called over her shoulder, throwing him a mischievous smile before she disappeared into the shadows.

The horse wasn't hard to find. Catching the damned thing was. It was wound up and set on evading her. After ten minutes of playing tricks with the darkness, she finally managed to get the horse to run in her direction, allowing her to catch what was left of its lead. Chuckling as she imagined Skylar's reaction, Faye led the still nervous horse back to the clearing and tying it with the rest of the lead.
