A Firey Escape

"C'mon! Get 'er outta there!!" the marshal yelled. He was the leader of the spanish fort. "It's time to break that horse." he growled. Three days...it had only been three stinkin' days! Yet, they decided to drag her out again! They pulled on Spitfire's halter rope, dragging her to the ring. Quickly, so as not to get bitten, they shoved the bit into her mouth and pulled the girth tight, then, backed away. Since she was stuck between two fences, with a gate in front of her, she waited. She knew someone would try to ride her soon. As soon as someone was on, and the gate had opened, she was out like a shot. Bucking once, the guy flew over her head.

Then, she raced around, trying to avoid being captured again. As soon as one guy grabbed ahold of her reigns, she whipped her head around and but him. But that was just enough distraction for two others to grab her. The marshal stepped forward. Her ears flattened. Well...this was new. Would he try to ride her finally? Yup...he climbed into the saddle. The gates opened. And she shot out. She'd show him! She reared up and hit him with the back of her head, knocking him out momentarily. Ha! She thought, prancing around victouriously, as he landed on the ground.

She was later shoved back into her stall, but was too happy to think about kicking the walls. That night, a groom walked in to feed all of them. She got less than the others. But when he came to feed her, she saw it was the groom she did not like. She laid her ears back and bared her teeth. He too did not like her, and when he challenged her by not taking her warning, she kicked out at him. He fell back and knocked over a lantern. Instantly, the barn burst into flames! "Marshal! The barn!!" someone yelled from outside. Many men ran in, opening all of the stall doors. As soon as Spitfire's door opened, she ran out, and dissapeared into the night. She would now be called Fireice. She was finally free, leaving everything, even her old name, behind...
