The night it began (Rated R, open) Empty The night it began (Rated R, open)

Her head.. it hurt so badly. Every bump sent a raw, numbing shock through her body, the pain occasionally making a flash of light appear behind her closed eyelids. Was she even breathing? Or even more important; was she even.. alive? But she had to be. Pain like this couldn't exist in death, not when the young woman was in agony. It was hard to breathe, hard to even open her mouth to gasp for air. Her lungs burned and ached, needing oxygen, needing air, before everything slowly went black. She was engulfed in the fuzzy, soft, comforting embrace of unconciousness, that swept her away from the pain.
It was hours before she finally came to. A soft moan escaped her parted lips, which had been split open somehow, the tangy, raw taste of her own blood trickling into her open mouth. Kadence's eyelids fluttered for a second, trying to open and finally suceeding after a few tries. For the most part, it was dark. There were windows, yes, and the familiar bumps and jostles that had already given her many bruises. But.. where was she? What was this.. place? Her mind screamed for answers, yet none came. More importantly, who was she? It was like all knowledge had dropped out of her head, and all she was left with was a big empty black space. Too weak to sit up by herself, the teenager lie on the floor, her dark brown hair spread around her head wildly. Kadence's eyes were large and held fear, while she had to focus to take air into her lungs.

It was quiet, but not silent. Flashes of light appeared in the windows periodicly, and the soft, rumbling sound of an engine finally regestered. She was in some sort of vehicle, it was obvious now. Somebody had to be driving it, so she couldn't have been alone. Maybe this person could help her! Her wide eyes glanced around the expanse of the area she was in. It looked to be the back of a van of some sort, with the seats gone and taken out. Out of the two back windows, Kadence watched streetlights fly by. She tried to sit up, but only managed a wiggle before she gasped and fell back to the floor. Too weak to do anything but lie here, the young woman set her jaw. Her throat was dry and she needed water, and now she felt a warm trickle of blood running down her chin.

Kadence closed her eyes tightly, trying to remember what had happened, how she had gotten here. Yes, she was frightened, but there had to be a reasonable explanation! She had to keep her head together and find out what it was.

"Kadence."
The rich, deep tones of a luring voice had caused the girl to turn around, her face looking slightly confused. Her long dress gave a swish as the movement was completed, looking for whoever had called her name. It was the masqueuerade ball. Music played in the backround, and gym had been transformed into a wonderland. Small, sparkly lights helped to light the dull room, with dozens of couples dancing together in slow, smooth movements. She was alone. But not anymore. A hand touched her shoulder, and once again, the girl spun around, this time facing the young man who had called her name. "Kadence..." He said it again, trailing his finger down her cheek, touching her lips gently. His dark eyes looked into hers, and she melted at his touch. Who was he? His face, what she could see of it was handsome and so sincere, she couldn't help but suddenly be engulfed by his presence. She parted her lips to ask him who he was, but he shook his head and only slid his hand down her arm, taking hers and squeezing it gently. "Come with me.."

Her eyes snapped open at once, and a strange, frightened feeling suddenly coarsed through her entire body. The young man... was he part of this? He had called her Kadence.. was that her name? Slowly, memories were starting to return. She cursed herself, realizing how stupid she had actually been as more and more flooded back, each one helping to start to desipher the situation. It had started simple enough.
He had merley asked her to dance with him, and so she had complied. Her hands were tied together. She held back a whimper as her fingers touched the soft, silky material of the deep red colored dress. The young woman shivered, trying to draw herself to sit up again, and managed to prop herself onto her elbow before cold fingers wrapped around her arm. Giving a hiss of fear, surprise, and shock, Kadence tried to pull away and managed a half strangled cry, but the grip only got tighter. Her head snapped to the left, her eyes widening as she followed the arm up to a body, then the body to a face. It was the young man from the ball. His mask was still firmly in place, hiding most of his face like it had done for the entire night. His thin lips were drawn into an uncanny smile, as shook his head and made a slight tutting noise.

"Is she awake?" Another voice came from the front of the truck, but Kadence's eyes were glued to the face of the young man. He gave a nod. "Yeah. I'll handle it." His voice was no longer smooth and seductive as it had been before, instead his words were sharp and harsh. He dragged her towards him, and when Kadence gave a yelp and squirmed to get out of his grip, his grin only got wider. He pulled her next to him and held here there, before roughly pressing a sticky piece of duct tape over her mouth so she could no longer make any nose.

Still, it didn't stop Kadence from kicking with her legs and trying to pull away from him, as he reached forward and wiped a smear of blood off of her smooth cheek with his thumb. "Well beautiful. I think this night was quite sucessful, wasn't it?" He scoffed at her once, before taking a strand of her hair and tucking it behind her ear, out of her face. "You're quite the fighter, aren't you. I guess that's what makes you special." Kadence turned her head away from his touch, wincing and trying to get away from him. She could feel his hot breath on her face and neck, but promised herself that she wouldn't give up fighting, whatever would happen. Right now there was no way to get out. But she would, she would prevail and save herself from whatever fate was coming.
