Breaking Free

I slowly walked to the edge of a humongous cliff, preparing. I was going to bind my wings, and then just jump. There was a lot of mist and rain, so no one would be able to find me and stop me. My goal wasn't death. I just wanted to break free from all of this. I had brought along some rope. I folded my wings back against me, and I tied them to me so I could not move them. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. And then, I jumped. I screamed loudly. The fall was exhilarating.

I walked silently through the woods, my black and red-tinted wings folded closely to my back. Finally, I broke free, my deep golden eyes taking in the sight of the girl who stood close to the edge of the cliff. I watched her tie her wings, then, suddenly, she jumped! I didn't notice the rope, and lurched forward. Spreading open my dark wings, the crimson lines streaking through them in a pattern over the feathers, I lifted into the air, flying over the edge of the cliff and dropping towards her, closing my wings. When I was only a couple feet above her, I outspread my wings, slowing as I hooked my elbows beneath her arms, lifting her up nearly effortlessly. Flying back up the cliff was more of a challenge, but it worked eventually. I landed back on the cliff, and she slid out of my grasp, sliding to the ground from my arms. "Are you effin insane?" I demanded.

"No." Was my simple reply. "I'm not insane." I slowly rose from the ground, brushing off imaginary dirt. I grinned. "Bet you'd never try that." I giggled.

I scowled at her, my longish, black hair hanging over into my deep golden eyes. "Of couse I wouldn't because I'm not a complete idiot!" I noticed the rope tied around her and shook my head. "If you want a rush, then fold your wings and jump. When you're not far from the ground, or water or whatever, then you unfold your wings and fly again. Then you don't have to worry about the damned rope that Humans make breaking or whatever at the top." I scowled at her again.

"That's the point. I wanted to hit the water without my damn wings spreading open at the last second." I sighed. "I hate this. Stupid humans. They don't understand."

I rolled my eyes. "You have got to be the weirdest girl I have ever seen," I said with a scowl, then shook my head slightly. "I'm Fang, by the way," I said, shrugging.

"Thank you. I am Vixen." I smiled. "What brings you here?" I asked.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, I think," I said with a slight grin, then shrugged again, rocking back onto my heels. "Just looking around," I said. "I don't ever really stay in one place. The Humans always gawk and point." I pretended to pook on an amazed look like They would always doo and pointed at Vixen. "Look, Mommy, there's a girl with wings! Look at her eyes!" I shrugged, returning my expression to normal and dropping my arm.

"And then I would proceed to scare them and bare my fangs and say 'Hey look, mommy, normal people! Ohmygoddess!' in a mocking tone." I said, imitating a little girl's voice.

I smirked slightly. "Well, that sounds like fun. I mostly just flare my wings and scowl at them and then fly up and start throwing stuff. They don't normally like that, but it's really actually fun swinging from chandeliers," I said.

"You would know what that is like." I grinned. "I have never even thought about doing that." I made a mental note to try that sometime.

I shrugged. "Maybe you should, it makes wandering around a lot more interesting. Especially if it breaks and smashes on the ground while you simply just start flying," I said, grinning and flashing rows of perfect, straight white teeth whose ends were filed to a point.

"So, where do you travel?" I asked him/her.

I shrug. "Anywhere that I can actually have some fun and terrorize a few people," I said, ruffling my black wings.

"Nice. Are you a fallen angel?" I asked, suddenly curious about him.

I nodded. "Yep. Turns out they didn't like me up there very much, so they kicked me out. It's fine by me; It's more fun here," I say, grinning.

"Yeah me too. Everything is great, except the humans." I muttered.

I nodded. "Yeah, they mostly just get in the way. It's like they just can't grasp the concept of someone with wings. Some kid thought mine were glued on and tried to tug them off so he could wear them," I scowled at the memory.

"Ow." I said, "That's gotta hurt."

I arched my eyebrows, shooting them up for a moment before lowering them again. "It only feels as if your being cut through with a really dull knife by a really strong person. If he was older it possibly would've hurt more. As it was, I just grabbed him and dropped him in the nearest pool."

"I remember having a, maybe ten-year old, grab my wings and yank me down. He screamed at me and then ran. It hurt cause I landed on cement." I wrinkled my nose at the memory.

I snort softly. "They can be so inconvienent at that age, it's like they think everything has to be the way they want it to be," I said, chuckling. "So, how'd you die?"

"Car crash. My parents died in a fire." that I caused. I finished in my head.
