A lone vehicle sat in the middle of the deserted road, the drivers side window shattered completely from impact while the front of the vehicle had collided into a thick tree trunk. The car sat crookedly on the drenched, puddle strewn pavement while rain poured down from the sky, huge, roiling clouds looking down on the scene with angry crashes of thunder and electrifying flashes of bright lightning. There was no other traffic, the single lane road heading into the distance with no reassuring houses or people to give hope. Darkness had fallen over the place, a sudden chill filling the air and making the whole atmosphere quite menacing and frightening. With the rain splattering against the windshield, a young woman sat in the vehicle, her eyes wide and knuckles white as she clutched the steering wheel.

Just a moment before, she had narrowly avoided colliding with a dog, who had bolted across the street directly in front of her, forcing her to quickly step on the break and twist the wheel to the side. Though the dog had escaped, unscathed, but the vehicle had spun out of control on the slick, slippery road, and had crashed into a tree a few feet from the edge of the road. Taylor was stunned, but all in all she felt like she was alright. Dizzy, she groaned softly and lifted a hand to her head, feeling wet, warm blood from where it had collided against the steering wheel.

Looking down at her shirt, Taylor noticed several tears in the sleeve, a few chunks of glass embedded in her arm. It seemed the blood was everywhere, but it looked worse then it was. She felt lucky, as the situation could have been much worse. Suddenly, a huge crash of thunder overhead made her jump, biting on her lower lip to keep from crying out. The rain poured through the open window, tree branches whipping in the strong wind while leaves fluttered to the ground and were swept away in an instant.

Her eyes glimmered softly in the darkness, headlights shining into the rough night with crooked beams of light. Illuminated ahead of her, was the dog, standing in the rain and not moving, looking directly towards the windshield and flopping wipers. Reaching for the handle, Taylor cracked open the door, wishing she hadn’t left her cell phone at home. The cold hit her like a brick wall, and as soon as she stood she was drenched in a matter of seconds. The dog slowly walked towards her shaking frame, while Taylor was forced to lean against the side of the car for support as the animal made its way towards her.

It whined softly, shaking with fright, it’s fur dripping with the cold rain and looking as pitiful as ever. A streetlight nearby flickered for a few seconds before a loud pop resounded, the light falling into darkness along with everything else. Her dark hair whipped around her head, the wind nipping at her already drenched clothing, while she leaned down and placed trembling fingers on the dog’s collar.

The tag was metal, tiny letters engraved in its surface that let Taylor know where the dog was from. It actually wasn’t too far from here, she had passed the house only a minute or so before the crash had happened. Teeth chattering, the young woman kept a sturdy hand around the poor dogs collar, starting to walk down the slippery, drenched street with the animal in tow.

A few minutes later they arrived at the house. The dog immedietly ran up to the front porch, yelping and pawing on the front door, while Taylor sank to her knees on the stairs. Strands of her hair stuck to her forehead and neck, rivulets of freezing cold rain falling down her face and dripping off the end of her nose. A wave of nausea hit her, making the girl slump against the nearest item and hold back a gag. The dizziness was almost unbearable, every time she opened her eyes the world spinning around and around. Shivering, she wrapped sodden arms around her shaking frame and hoped that somebody, anybody was home.

It was raining out and Logan had just gotten back inside the ranch house from out feeding the horses and checking on the few cows that had calves. Taking off his wet stetson and placing it on a peg near the door, he took off the wet coat and hung it up before looking down at his muddy boot, with a grunt he pulled them off, placing them next to the door, with all the other shoes before walking more into the house in his socks. His jeans were wet too but he didn't feel like taking them off ye,t he wanted a beer and to watch the news for some info on the storm before he did anything else. He wasn't sure where Sidekick was, the golden retriever/lab mix had wondered off while Logan was in the barn he had called for him but Sidekick hadn't shown up, he figured he'd be back soon. That he was just off fallowing the smell of a rabbit or something.
Logan owned a 200+ acre ranch that was passed down to him when his father had died, up in Montana. The ranch had been owned by a Creed for generations and so here was Logan working on the ranch, now he was just really getting started again, with only about a hundred head of cattle and six horses but it was a work in progress thing. It was going to take time for the ranch to be in all it's glory and the 23 year old was working on it.

Walking into the kitchen the young man shook his head at the storm really got started with the thunder booming as he opened the frig and grabbed a beer, popping the top he took a drink before closing the frig and padding back into the living room and sat down in the recliner. Grabbing the remote he turned on the tv and flipped it to the news channel so he could watch the weather, that was all he really watched the news for now a days. A few toys were scattered around, with a pink and brown fuzzy blanket laid on the couch with a stuffed wolf, and elephant. Thunder boomed again as Logan took a sip of his beer, he was amazing the little five year old girl was sleeping through the storm, then again she was like her mama who could sleep through almost anything. Shaking his head Logan frowned hearing Sidekick yelping and whining pawing at the front door.

"Im comin Im comin you crazy dog" He mumbled getting to his feet beer in hand and walked to the door, opening it he looked down at the muddy soaking wet dark golden dog that was looking up at him, his tail wagging a little tongue hanging out. "You are a mess" He grumbled opening the door wider to let the door in, but instead of coming in Sidekick whined and turned around going to the porch steps again looking back at him. "What?" Frowning Logan flicked on the light, Greenish blue eyes looked around before spotting the figure of another person. "Hello?" He stepped out in his socks walking to the person.

It was a girl that much Logan would tell as he got nearer he spotted the crimson blood stains on her shirt and skin "Miss are you ok?" He asked worried now stepping up in front of her with a frown "What the hell happened too you?" He asked looking down at her, she had a gash starting in her hairline, her one arm looked chewed up and she was shivering soaking wet and pale. Without thinking Logan scooped her into his arms as gently as he could and walked back to the door "Come on Sidekick" He called over his shoulder and walked into the house again, the dog slipped in and he closed it with his foot before looking down at the girl in his arms "Lets take a look at you know" Walking into the bathroom off the living room he set her down gently on the toilet then flicked on the light looking down at her with a frown.

"Whats your name sweetheart?" He asked as he gently took her injured arm in his hands, letting out a couple cuss words as he saw some glass embedded into her arm, but her arm was so covered in blood it was hard to tell what was the injured part and what wasn't. "We need to get you warmed up and cleaned up, think you can walk?" He asked letting go of her arm. This bathroom didn't have a shower in it, and the fastest thing he could think of to warm her up and get all the blood and mud off her was in the shower, that meant going up stairs into wither his room or taking the hall bath, the hall bath had all of Lilly's things in it. "Come on up ya go" Helping her to her feet, Logan just scooped her back into his arms, one hand under her knees the other just under her shoulder blades. Carefully he walked out of the bathroom and started up the stairs.
