Runaway Filly

~Katara~
I frown. "Oh...well...sorry..."
I stare at the ground for a moment and then my head shot up. "Wait! So your saying we have no one looking after us...except for Mr. Bad Ass Attitude over there?!"

Dez~
I raise my eyebrow.
"Never, underestimate Enrico and me, our parents taught us to fight, and we've been able to fight off horses much older than ourselves," I say. Why did foals always think the big horses had to look after the little foals? We were yearlings, afterall.

~Katara~
I nod slightly, though I was still tense. I flicked my small tail and lowered my head, glancing towards Enrico.

Enrico~
I snort softly at something Sals was saying, then glance at the others. I keep my ears half back as I walk over to them, still not very happy as I lay beside Dez.
"Sorry about that," I say, looking at Katara.

Salero~
I smirk, following him, and lay down beside him. I had learned from Dez how to get around his attitude.

~Katara~
I smile slightly. "No worries."

Enrico~
I watch her for a moment, a sigh escaping me as I lay my head over Sals neck, closing my eyes. I listen to everything around me, nostrils dilated to take in the scents of the animals and horses around me. Nothing dangerous.

Salero~
I smile and lay my head down, falling into a light sleep.

Dez~
I look at Katara.
"Where did you come from? And if you don't mind my asking, how did you get seperated, from your mom?" I ask cautiously.

~Katara~
I sighed and lied down, resting my head on my front legs like a dog would.
"Well...it was only about a week ago. My mother was going to show me something...I dunno. We were in the forests when a pack of wolves came after us...there weren't many, but they took down my mom. She...she..." she stopped, choking back tears, "told me to run and never stop..."

Enrico~
I listen to her and suddnely raise my head, looking at Dez. She nodded. I shift uneasily as I switch my gaze to Katara.
"Wolves?" I ask quietly.

~Katara~
I feel a sudden twang of panick. "Isn't that what I said?" I muttered.

Enrico~
I look over at Dez and shake my head.
"We're help look," I say quietly, though I knew the odds of finding her mom wasn't very great.

Dez~
I sigh and stand up, walking to a nearby stream.

~Katara~
I nod, though I felt that with the tension in the meadow, there was something that I was missing.
"Thanks, Enrico, It means a lot." I smiled and licked his cheek.

Enrico~
I no and nuzzle her softly, then lay my head back over Sals's back, watching Dez.

Dez~
I lower my head to the water, exhaling and blowing bubbles. Normally, I would have giggled, but considering the circumstances, I just watched the rippels in the water. I lowered my head again, up to my eyes, and swung my head back adn forth, creating big waves in the water as I walked forward. Once I was up to my knees, I laid down and rolled.

~Katara~
I felt the breeze pick up and lifted my head. It blew my tiny black mane and tail backward and I smiled slightly, feeling some new hope.

Enrico~
I breath deeply in the fresh air, watching the sun as it began to set. I sigh and shake my long mane. I was a little over 2 now, and Dez and Sals were both a little over one. I glance over at Dez as she played in the water, nibbling on Sals mane gently.

~Katara~
I look at the three foals around me. I guess I was the youngest, being a little under a year old...but they didn't seem to mind.
I flicked my ears back and forth and took a bite of grass, glancing around.

Dez~
I stand up and shake off, rolling in the grass for a few minutes. I stay down quietly, nibbling at the grass as I watch everyone around me, listening to the wind in the trees.

~Katara~
I stare for a moment and then speak. "So what now?"

Enrico~
I look at her.
"We'll just wait until morning, then look for her. Unless you want to start now, that is," I add.

~Katara~
I shake my head. "I can wait...my ankle still hurts."

Enrico~
I nod and lay my head back down.

Sals~
I listen to everything they say, then finally sigh softly to myself and fall asleep.

Dez~
I wander over to them and lay down by Katara.
"We'll find her," I say, nudging her shoulder with my nose.

~Katara~
I nod and lie down in the soft grass.
I watched the others slowly fall asleep and then rested my head on the ground, the grass tickling my nose.

Dez~
My head bobbed slightly in the air, and I steadied it on the soft grass. My breathing deepened and slowed,a nd a moment later I was drifting into unconciousness.

~Katara~
I blew on the grass softly and stared up at the darkening sky. I sighed, "Don't worry mom...we're coming for you." I whispered and then closed my eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

Enrico~

I wait until all the others are asleep and then look up at the rising moon. Finally I drift off into a light sleep.

~Katara~
No! NO! I screamed.
Run, Katara, please, just go! I heard my mothers voice and flinched.
A howl.
Wolves.
Many...
I reared and galloped after them, but my mother called back, No! Katara, just run away! You must trust me...I will find you again!
I stopped and watched the wolves drag her off, or so I thought. My eyes were filled with tears, so I couldn't see. I spun and ran.


I threw my head up. "No!" I shrieked and looked around, my sides heaving.
