"Ugh I'm sorry. I just didn't want you to get hurt." Dodger said softly, nudging her cheek.

Saddie backed away from him, growling. "I'd like to go home now..... If you don't mind."

"No problem at all." He replied. Dodger took her home, and smiled before dashing back to where he lived.

Saddie curled up on the back porch of her house and watched Doger go. She had a lot of fun that night, at least, up until the street dogs got into another fight. Who was that other dog and why did he attack Doger? She growled to herself. She knew deep down in her gut that this dog was bad news. Next time she wouldn't be won over so easily.

The next day Dodger got up to see Saddie. When he got there the humans were nowhere in sight, and their car was gone. He only saw Saddie chained to the house. Then he saw a moving truck drive away from the house. "Saddie!" He yowled, squirming through the fence. "What happened?"

Saddie cocked her head, confused. "What do you mean what happened? My Mistress is merely taking her pups on an outing. Clearly, I was not needed so they left me here."

(She doesn't know what's going on yet. Just so you know. )

"Uh, Saddie. Did you not just see that moving truck leave? Take a look in your home." Dodger growled, pulling the chain loose from her collar.

She huffed. "Fine. I will." She leapt up onto the porch and peered inside. Instead of seeing corloful toys cluttering the floor and toddlers running back and forth, all she saw was emptiness. She barked and scratched at the back door.

"Your people moved away, Saddie. I have seen this before." Dodger told her. He couldn't bare to see the sadness in her eyes, so he licked her ear comfortingly.

She whined and backed away. "No. It's not true! They just didn't have enough room for me. Yeah, that's it. They'll come back for me, you'll see." She padded back to her chain and sat there, ever vigilant.

"Don't you get it?" Dodger growled, looking her in the eyes. "This is what humans do. They act like they love you, they act like they'll be there forever. Then one day, they'll pack up their stuff and move away, and take what they really want with them." Dodger explained.

(Lol, somebody's been watching Bolt. )

Saddie shakes her head. "No. You're wrong." She shakes her head. "This can't be true. They love me, why would they leave me?"

"Its called life, Saddie." Dodger growled. "Don't believe me? Fine. I'll prove you wrong."

Saddie whimpered and sank to the ground. A tear slid down her cheek. "But.... But. I didn't do anything wrong. I protected my Mitress and her pups with all my being......"

"And I understand that." Dodger replied, laying next to her. "And you did a very good job. Perhaps your Mistress just wasn't able to take care of you anymore. She has a family, and kids. Its natural." Dodger said, licking her tears away. Dodger hated to see her this way.

His tounge on her eyes only made the tears flow more easily. She buried her nose in her paws and sobbed. "But they're my family. What will I do now? I'll die out there."

Dodger pondered for a moment, then his eyes brightened. "You can stay with me if you want. I've got food and a place to stay." Dodger offered, pressing his nose in her pelt.

She looked up at him with sad brown eyes. "Really? After the way I've treated you, you would let me stay?"

"Of course I would. I've delt with dogs with a worse attitude than yours." Dodger replied.

"Gee, thanks," Saddie mumbled sarcasticlly. "Glad to know that I'm not the worst."

"No, that's not what I meant. You barely have an attitude." Dodger replied, offensively. "We can get some food first if you want."

"I'm not hungry," she grumbled and stood. "Can you show me to a place where I can sleep?"

"You can stay at my place. There's tons of room." Dodger suggested, soon leading her there. "There's an extra barrel."
