With her head hung low, Saddie padded after him. "Thank you," she said as she slipped through the fence of her home for the last time.

Dodger nodded a 'your welcome' and sat on his haunches before starting to eat chicken from a garbage can. "I warn you now, this is not like a soft house pet life with rabbit droppings and slop for food. This... This is a REAL life." Dodger told her, trying not to be disrespectful.

She trudged along behind him. Too depressed to respond.

Dodger whimpered, hating to see her so depressed. He licked her ear and smiled. "Its alright. If your Mistress was too stupid to take you with her, than that's her problem. Not yours." Dodger tried comforting her.

More tears slid down Saddie's cheek at the mention of her Mistress. She nodded and took a big gulp. "Yeah, I guess so."

"Well, well, well. Looks like the Dodge got himself a girlfriend." A large Doberman snarled, stalking forward. "I'll have fun with you." He growled to Saddie. Dodger stood up immediately and clawed him. "Usted guarda sus patas de ella! Si siquiera mirarla, te voy a destrozar!" Dodger cursed in Spanish. The dog nodded and scurried off.

Saddie whimpered and shrunk away when a dog approached them. She pricked her ear when Dodger said something in his native tounge. "What did you say?" she asked when the other dog scurried away.

"Something that was gladly said in Spanish, and not English senorita." Dodger replied, his Mexican accent flowing.

She sighed, "Alright I guess." She looked around. "Where am I going to sleep?"

"Ether in my barrel with me, or your own barrel." Dodger replied, beckoning his tail towards the second one. But then it started to downpour. "Get in." He ordered, gently nudging her into his barrel before laying down beside her.

She rested her head on his scruff and sobbed. This was the waorst day of her life. She eventually cried herself to sleep.

Once she fell asleep, Dodger rested his head on her shoulder, keeping Saddie warm.

Dodger awoke the next morning and gazed happily at the warm sun. Today, he would take Saddie to meet his friends and then take her to the beach. "Psst. Saddie." He whispered.

Saddie whined and lifted her head. At first, she had no idea where she was but then the memory of yesterday's events registered. She whimpered and shrunk away from the shining sun. "What is it Dodger?"

"Thought I'd take you to the beach. Its amazing there." Dodger replied.

Saddie looked up at him. "My Mistress used to take me to the beach all the time....."

"Its great at night. All the fireworks and music." He said.

(That would be a perfect time for them to fall in love.)

Saddie sighed and crawled out of the barrel. "Let's go then. I don't want to be there longer than we have to."

Dodger lead her there and gazed at the night sky. They had slept in WAY too long. Fireworks cracked and music played.

Saddie stared up at the lights in the sky, mesmerized. "Woooww. I've never seen these before...."

"They're called Fireworks." Dodger told her, his eyes glistening in the bright colors.

"Wow, They would be so amamzing if I wasn't color blind," she said. Her tail wagged as she watched them.

"That there is my own secret. I'm not color-blind." Dodger told her, proud of that rare ability. But when he looked over and gazed into her eyes, she looked like a whole different dog to him. He smiled as Fireworks sparked around them and music played.

Saddie pricked her ears at the strange sounds around her. "What are these noises called?"
